DIY Oscilloscope

WARNING POTENTIALLY HIGH VOLTAGE INVOLVED EVEN WHEN DISCONNECTED, DO NOT ATTEMPT IF YOU ARE UNSURE WHAT PARTS ARE DANGEROUS

Using the portable TV in my last post I did a simple hack to convert the tube into a really really crummy oscilloscope. Most likely all it will be able to do is tell me whether the voltage is positive or negative, but thats all I really want it to do.

After moving the horizontal coil signal to the vertical coil the line doesn't go all the way across. I tested both signals in the vertical coil, with a 1.5v battery as input to the horizontal coil. With the vertical signal I get the crazy blobs in these pictures, with the horizontal signal there aren't any wave forms just a straight line which moves up/down depending on the input.

This is the entirety of the hack, moved wires from the horizontal coil to the vertical one and added some inputs to the horizontal coil:

Voila, +1.5v:

And -1.5v:
DIY Oscilloscope - Negative

Here it is at rest:
